The Los Angeles Times Guild organizing committee formally introduced itself to the newsroom on Wednesday, Oct. 4, delivering a letter that spells out how unionizing would safeguard the future of the Los Angeles Times and its journalists.
In its message, the organizing committee revealed it has already gathered cards in favor of union representation from a majority of the newsroom — and is continuing to build support. The committee also launched a website with more information on its organizing effort and overall goals.
The organizing drive represents a historic moment in the newspaper’s 135-year history. Los Angeles Times workers are committing to join the NewsGuild, which represents newsrooms at the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, Reuters, the Associated Press and the Baltimore Sun.
