Support the Guild at the 2024 Festival of Books
The journalists at the Los Angeles Times have been working without a union contract for more than a year and a half.
Journalists at The Times cherish the Festival of Books, which is a celebration of the written word and one of the most high-profile events that The Times holds each year. We know that people who attend the festival and participate as authors and panelists value journalism and the free press in Southern California.
We would love to have your support at the festival as we fight for a new, fair contract.
How all FESTIVAL attendees can help
Since 2018, it’s been our mission to safeguard the future of the Los Angeles Times and its journalists. The support of readers has been crucial. Sign our petition to tell Times management how much you value The Times’ important work and the journalists who produce it.
HOW AUTHORS AND PANELISTS CAN HELP
We'd love for you to say something during your appearance at the Festival of Books to support our contract talks and encourage the company to reach a fair deal with Times journalists.
It doesn't have to be a huge speech. You're welcome to speak from the heart, touching on what The Times means to you, or just briefly expressing your solidarity with Times journalists. Or you can crib from one of the following statements:
Option 1: The journalists at the L.A. Times have been bargaining a contract for a year and a half. That’s way too long. They deserve a deal that delivers fair wages and a contract that values journalism. L.A is a world-class city and deserves a world-class newspaper.
Option 2: The journalists at the L.A. Times have been bargaining a contract for a year and a half. That’s way too long. During that time, the company has slashed the jobs of 120 staffers. The L.A. Times needs to stop cutting jobs and reach a fair agreement with its workers. L.A. is a world-class city and deserves a world-class newspaper.
We'd also love for you to share this information with your friends and colleagues who are speaking at the festival and encourage them to voice their support for Times journalists as well.
